Juliana Riccardi

Welcome! This website chronicles my projects and thoughts as a researcher, aspiring psychologist, artist, and human.

Personal Statement

Every day, I have the privilege of working with and serving the diverse communities of New York City through research, volunteer work, and community engagement.

Having been born and raised in this vibrant city, I recognize how fortunate I am to connect with people from a wide array of backgrounds, each contributing their unique perspectives. These experiences have not only deepened my understanding of the world but also sparked my intellectual curiosity, pushing me to engage with interdisciplinary ideas across clinical, applied, critical, social, and cognitive psychology and intersectional, feminist, queer, and critical race theories.

I’m deeply grateful for these opportunities and am driven to translate the knowledge I’ve gained—from academic theories to hands-on experiences—into meaningful change for broader communities.

I recently graduated from The New School with a BA in Psychology, and my work is firmly rooted in a commitment to social justice. My research interests lie in multicultural and feminist counseling, with a focus on women’s and gender-related issues. Drawing from feminist critical psychological theories and methodologies, I aim to create inclusive, equitable spaces for people to heal, grow, and thrive.

When I am not working on my computer, collaborating with other researchers, or nose deep in a book, you can find me continuing my life long work as an artist (drawing, painting, photographing), dancing/kickboxing/lifting weights/hiking, or traveling!

In a second study, I utilize data from the National Trauma Data Base to explore injury types, treatment outcomes and care across diverse populations.

Through a critical thematic analysis of interviews with 20 women, this work explores the emotional and “invisible” labor of plurisexual (bisexual, pansexual, queer, or fluid) women navigating heteronormative society.
